Joining a fraternity can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have during your collegiate years. And, although “going Greek” is a lifetime commitment, choosing the right fraternity for you does not have to be a difficult decision. Simply decide what is most important to you in life, then, find an organization that aligns with those values.
Taken directly from our mission statement, Sigma Nu Fraternity exists to develop ethical leaders inspired by our three founding principles of Love, Honor and Truth. Further, we work to develop the mind, heart and character of each of our members so they, too, can realize our vision of “Excelling with Honor.”
While you are looking for the right fraternity, we hope you seriously consider why membership in Sigma Nu is distinctive beyond what other fraternities have to offer—it could be one of the best decisions you will ever make.

Sigma Nu is Founded against Hazing!
As the first fraternity founded against hazing, Sigma Nu has been an organization striving for equality and fair treatment from the beginning. Founded as an actual protest movement against hazing, our three founders were unwilling to accept any amount of hazing then being allowed at VMI. They were willing to suffer the consequences of fighting against it and were doggedly adamant about eliminating it. In October 1868, with clasped hands on the Bible, they gave their solemn pledge to form a brotherhood of a new society they called the Legion of Honor. We expect all members and new members to abide by our founders vision of a brotherhood opposed to hazing.

Honor, Above All Else
Our Founders at Virginia Military Institute lived by a code of Honor. The Honor System at VMI required each cadet to conform to the duty imposed by his conscience that each act be governed by the highest sense of Honor. We are the first fraternity to be founded upon this Honor principle. When lived out in the bonds of fraternal brotherhood, the Honor principle brings a level of integrity and excellence that is uncommon in a world of relative truth.
Honor is deemed exactly what determines a person's character: whether or not the person reflects honesty, respect, integrity and fairness. Sigma Nu looks only for men of the highest caliber.
